The paper discusses a project to conduct an Energy Action Plan for Veolia Water and propose a slate of potential projects that will reduce utility costs and can be implemented within reasonable payback periods. SquareD Engineering personnel visited the Veolia Water Company on August 8 and 9, 2005. The system is an efficiently run production operation. The contributions of plant management and staff significantly increased the accuracy and value of this study. Historical use of utility cost and consumption provide the framework for determining project savings potential. The system's major processes were identified using information obtained during on-site visits and discussions with appropriate plant staff members. Production processes included screening, preoxidation, mixing, chemical coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, pumping, etc. Project recommendations are made by matching this application's unique utility profile with technologies and process improvement opportunities from energy, utility, and automation systems in industrial environments. Includes tables, figures.
