This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of EPCOR Water Services. Sources of lead in tap water are presented, along with the Health Canada Corrosion Control document, the EPCOR 2007 lead sampling program, and the EPCOR 2008 lead response plan. The status of the program as of June 1 includes the following: assembled sampling team (6 samplers, 1 coordinator, 1 administrator.); results for 350 homes - approximately 20% with lead > 10 ug/L; coordinating lead service line replacement with private contractors - few replacements so far. Health inquiries include the following: relaying health-related questions to Capital Health through Capital Health Link Have Q&A's or website (cha.ab.ca); and, Capital Health may recommend testing a person's blood for lead if their tap water is higher than acceptable lead levels (10 ppb) and the person is < five years old or pregnant. Next steps include the following: complete sampling and provision of POU devices by winter 2008; eventual goal is to sample and provide test results to as many LSL residences as possible and to replace LSLs for all interested customers; evaluating pipe-lining technology; and, testing effect of pH increase on lead at the tap in a lead service line field test. Includes tables, figures.
