This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the sources of lead in drinking water, and a historical perspective of lead regulation. The chemistry of lead is presented, along with factors influencing lead release. An example of treating for elevated lead is provided at the city of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, where sampling showed elevated lead was a localized issue and recommendations included the following: implement a public information program; flyers were issued with water bills; media interviews were held; and additional sampling was conducted. Benchmarking was done against the draft review of Health Canada Guidelines for Corrosion Control. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: high lead levels were caused primarily by very low flow conditions in selected households; widespread lead release issues do not appear to be a problem; more sampling is required as part of an ongoing monitoring program; and public education efforts included releasing flyers and appearances in the local media. Includes tables, figures.
