In closing, the City of Fort Lauderdale, the largest city in Broward County, is facing many obstacles in meeting their future water needs. Issues related to allocation, resource protection and preservation, treatment requirements, and regulatory uncertainties appear to be overwhelming. The City has attacked these issues in a very pro-active manner. They are working hand-in-hand with regulators to stay in tune with rule-making and regulatory changes, they are taking measures to optimize use of existing resources, they are rehabilitating aging facilities, they are planning their infrastructure to meet long-term demands, they are diversifying their raw water supplies, and they have active and effective water conservation programs. All of these initiatives will enable the City of Fort Lauderdale to meet future water demands in spite of all the regulatory and regional planning uncertainties. Includes table, figures.
