This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a brief overview of the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District Service Area in the Salt Lake Valley. Historical mining and environmental impacts are presented, particularly selenium impacts not related to mining, along with the Natural Resource Damage Claim, and the Southwest Jordan Valley Groundwater Project and the Zone B concentrate disposal initial option of discharge to Jordan River below confluence with large WWTP. Characteristics of the Great Salt Lake (GSL) are presented, along with the concentration of selenium in GSL, and the research program objective of determining the acceptable waterborne concentration of selenium that prevents impairment of the beneficial uses of the open waters of Great Salt Lake. Of the five projects identified to meet this objective, Project 1, Avian Ecology, added a bird module to the selenium bioaccumulation model. The Utah Water Quality Board adopted 12.5 mg/kg as the selenium standard for the GSL. Includes figures.
