This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of galvanic corrosion and the theory of alkalinity mitigating corrosion by acting as a buffer or by contributing to formation of protective pipe scale. Study objectives were to: reproduce this trend under controlled circumstances; determine if there is an "optimally bad" amount of alkalinity; and, examine mechanisms for the trend - pH at anode, chloride concentration at anode, and galvanic current with conductivity. Part I involved dump and fill jar testing. Part II involved using a electrochemical test cell to examine conductivity effect. Includes figures.
