The San Patricio Municipal Water District in Ingleside, Texas, began operation of its Plant C facility in January of 2000. This facility is noteworthy because it is the first large scale municipal water treatment facility that utilizes the microfiltration membrane process supplied by Pall Corporation. The San Patricio Municipal Water District currently operates its Plant C facility for the production of filtered water for industrial and municipal customers. The treatment facility was designed for a peak capacity of 7.8 million gallons per day (6.5 mgd with one unit out of service). The District initiated design in March, 1998. The project was a fast-track to meet the requirements of a new industrial user. However, design included approximately 4 months of pilot testing to determine membrane flux for various proprietary systems, procurement of the membrane system, preparation of 5 design packages for various portions of the facility. This paper discusses two aspects of the facilities operation, the first being a review of the operational history of the Pall membrane system. The second is the expansion of the facility from 7.8 to 11.2 mgd. This expansion was initiated in 2005 and completed in 2006. Includes tables.
