Most water recycling regulations, such as Title 22 in California, are primarily intended to protect public health. The main water quality parameters covered by the regulations are turbidity (or clarity) and level of disinfection. However, most industrial users of recycled water are also concerned with water quality parameters that are related to scaling, corrosion, biofouling, the number of cycles of concentration that can be achieved and the potential for emissions of airborne particulate matter. This paper discusses the additional water quality issues related to use of recycled water for industrial cooling. Examples of existing industrial recycled water users are highlighted. Includes 2 references, tables, figure.
