This powerpoint presentation begins by providing background information on the new arsenic maximum contaminant level (MCL) passed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) on January 23, 2006. The impact on the city of Scottsdale is presented for two different areas that include: the Central Arizona Project (CAP) - Colorado River, where the water is transported through the CAP canal to the CAP Water Treatment Plant; and, the Salt River Project (SRP) - Salt and Verde Rivers where the water is transported through the Arizona canal to the Chaparral Water Treatment Plant (CWTP). A brief overview of the CWTP is provided, along with arsenic treatment and optimization at the the plant, the traditional approach for arsenic treatment by the City of Scottsdale Water Quality Laboratory, and new arsenic monitoring technologies. The arsenic test strip, the fully automated arsenic analyzer "SafeGuard", Anodic Stripping Voltametry (ASV), an evaluation of SafeGuard, and Optimizing Chemical Feed at Chaparral Water Treatment Plant are all presented. Includes tables, figures.
