The research objectives of this powerpoint presentation were to: determine organic matter amounts and characteristics in different water sources; address the potential impact of effluent organic matter (EfOM) on drinking water treatment processes for potable reuse; compare disinfection byproducts (DBPs), and disinfection byproduct formation potential (DBPFP) in terms of trihalomethanes (THMs), haloacetic acid (HAAs), nitrogenous-disinfection byproducts (N-DBPs) and total organic halogen (TOX); investigate the contribution of EfOM to DBPFPs; and, propose strategies for EfOM control. Differentiation of EfOM versus natural organic matter (NOM) using Multivariate Statistical Analysis, including Box-and-Whisker Plots and Principal Component Analysis is presented, along with occurrence of DBPs and DBPFPs and Box-and-Whisker Plots and Linear Regression. Includes figures.
