This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Pinellas County Water System. Reasons for converting to chloramines are listed and include: development of Alternative Water Supplies such as blended ground, surface and desalinated seawater; regulated disinfection byproduct (DBP) control; compatibility with wholesale regional supply; and, avoid high capital cost of precursor removal. Observed challenges to chloramine conversion include:Nitrification; chloramine residual dissipation; HPC increased by orders of magnitude; increased flushing; decrease in Legionella and increase in Mycobacteria population densities; and, taste and odor complaints. Capital costs and operation and maintenance costs are presented. Includes figures.
