This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the occurrence of Cryptosporidium in both urban and rural environments, and the oocysts percentage of infectivity in risk assessment. Project objectives were to characterize the risk associated with Cryptosporidium infectious oocysts in drinking water sources by: optimizing current cell culture methods by combining total and infectious counts on the same sample; assessing Cryptosporidium infectious fractions levels in rural and urban areas; and, revisiting the risk associated with Cryptosporidium oocysts in drinking water via a QMRA approach. Method 3D-CC-IFA, dual direct detection on cell culture with an Immunofluorescent Assay, is presented with the first steps being similar to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) 1622/23 method. Conclusions are provided for: 3D-CC-IFA environmental performance; urban pollution sources; and, rural pollution sources. Includes tables, figures.
