Draft a standard supplement to the BIDM (1420.1) so that reusable software components may be labeled with information regarding the legal restrictions commonly asserted in the US, such as copyright, patents, licensing and export restrictions. The committee will not deal with international issues, enforcing the legal restrictions, or advocating changes in property rights law. The committee will consider mechanisms for asserting and enforcing legal restrictions for the purpose of describing such mechanisms, but will not develop such mechanisms). There is a lack of standards for exchanging intellectual property rights information regarding reusable software components. This inhibits interoperability and causes uncertainty about liability risks. This project will provide a standard supplement to the BIDM (1420.1) for labeling intellectual property rights and licensing restrictions that addresses the concerns of academic, commercial and government ruuse libraries. Amendment Standard - Inactive-Withdrawn. This extension to the Basic Interoperability Data Model (IEEE Std 1420.1-1995)incorporates intellectual property rights issues into software asset descriptions for reuse library interoperability.
