Cross laminated timber (CLT) is a mass timber material that has the potential to expand the wood building market in North America. When used in place of steel and concrete, CLT can offer a sustainable structural solution with lower environmental impacts. However, most environmental impact assessments don’t consider variation in transportation impacts with the CLT supply chain or their end-of-life fate when calculating life cycle impacts. The mass timber components can offer a lot of versatility in application. Thus, this seminar provides: 1) construction and development drivers for the use of mass timber and 2) the latest research on hygrothermal and energy-saving potential.
