Scope of This Document
This standard details definitions, method of measurements and minimum performance characteristics for Forward Link Only transmitters. For the purposes of this specification, "transmitter" shall include any necessary output filter(s) that must be employed to meet any part of this specification.
This standard shares the purpose of [1] by ensuring that a Forward Link Only transmitter can provide service in any system that meets the compatibility requirements of [1].
Compatibility, as used in the connection with this standard and [1], is understood to mean that any Forward Link Only transmitter is able to transmit multicast service information than can be received by any Forward Link Only device. Test methods are recommended in this document; however, methods other than those recommended may suffice for the same purpose.
Specifically, Revision A of the specification expands the scope to include minimum performance test coverage for 7 and 8 MHz channel bandwidths in the UHF band. Additionally, this revision deletes unused terms and definitions and removes requirements for I/Q imbalance and phase noise, since the effects of these impairments are captured by the MER requirement [see Section 2.1.3.1].
Finally, the MER test procedure was revised to reduce the burden on test equipment manufacturers, while maintaining essential test requirements, by changing the minimum number of OFDM symbols over which measurements are averaged.
